Where do I sign up to be a background check specialist at Fox? Apparently that’s the easiest job in the world since they don’t appear to be doing anything.

Yes, I know I’m late with this. It’s bad when JT.net is talking smack about “scooping” you.
Apparently our little Trenyce… errrr Lashundra Cobbins used to have a little problem with the sticky fingers. The whole one-name thing makes a bit more sense now. Lashundra?!
JT.net, is it really “scooping” when you read it on the Smoking Gun before the Blizzog does?
Now let’s all review the Fox Reality Show Ethics Handbook.
1.) Showing your boobies on a porn site is bad, mmmkay?
2.) Showing your feet in a fetish video is okay, mmmkay?
3.) Felony theft record is okay, mmmkay?
I am rarely disappointed in the outcome of the NCAA tournament. With few exceptions, Carolina either wins it or Dook doesn’t.
Have a nice life, Tauntay. Nice shooting, JJ. See you next year.
Imagine a country whose goverment decrees that its people pray to God so that God will help them win a war? Is that country Iraq? Afghanistan? Nope. It’s the United States.
Missouri’s W. Todd Akin and 26 other “leaders” in the House - including 2 from NC - actually put this bill out for debate. The last time I checked the economy was in the tank, we haven’t passed a budget, and there are about a jillion other things that our elected leaders could be working on besides this; a bill calling on people of the United States to observe a day of “prayer and fasting” where they can “seek guidance from God to achieve a greater understanding of our own failings.” WHAT?!!!
The last time I checked this was a country founded partly on the principles of religious freedom. People fled England and people have fled other places to come here because their government was telling them, “Worship (insert diety of choice). Or else.” Where the hell does our Congress get off spending time - using our tax dollars - considering a bill requesting that people set aside time to pray and fast and talk to God? God. Not Allah. Not Buddah. Not Michael Jordan, or the Smurfs, or your favorite cult leader of choice. God.
I really have no problem with Congress wanting to set aside a day of personal reflection or what have you as a symbolic gesture. I think it’s a nice thought, although I also think their time could be better spent on other matters. There is certainly a lot going on now, and encouraging people to re-connect with their faith is never a bad idea. Except that’s not what this bill is really saying. It’s saying to reconnect with God. There’s a very creepy Christian slant to this bill’s wording that I’m not comfortable with. In my opinion it could have been worded in a way that seememd more inclusive of people of all faiths.
It appears from the site that this bill is dead right now, which is great. Hopefully Representative Akin and his cohorts will go back to doing work that will actually help people.
Sorry I’ve been so slack about posting to the Blizzog. This whole war thing has me a bit bummed out. I haven’t really felt like posting the gut-busting humor you are accustomed to here. Don’t you worry, though. I’m going to pull myself up out of this slump.
So here’s a quickie recap of American Idol from last night.
This show wins the award for “Most Liberal Abuse of the Night’s Genre.” Country-Rock? What the hell is that? And since when is Olivia Newton-John a star in either genre? I guess “Songs from Grease or Physical” night would not have gone over very well.
My one-cent takes on the night’s performance. It’s only one-cent because I’m starving and therefore do not have enough time to give my full two cents.
Corey - Much better this week than last. He has a pretty cool personality, but I don’t really dig his voice. It always sounds like it’s just on the edge of going way out of control. Not bad though considering he’s not really a country-rocker, whatever the hell that is.
Ruben - Best performance of the night. I wish I could have heard his whole rendition of Sweet Home Alabama. Good times.
Trenyce - I didn’t really love her last night. This probably wasn’t her best performance by far. She might be bottom 3 material, tonight.
Clay - Worst performance yet for Clay, though it still wasn’t horrible. It was really just boring. I hope he kicks it up a notch - sorry Emeril - next week.
Kimberly Caldwell - I’m not a huge country fan, but I do have some country songs that I really like. Travis Tritt’s Anymore is one of them, and Kimberly ruined it for me. I just don’t get her. And how skanky was that outfit? Yuck.
Josh - Another great performance. Cool choice of an upbeat Garth Brooks song. Was this Josh’s softball or what? Too bad it will all be down hill from here. I can’t wait for Josh’s “I’m now a country singer” version of Stayin’ Alive next week during Disco night.
Carmen - Again with the warbling. Bottom 3 material. Please get voted off.
Rickey - Awful song but man can that guy sing.
Julia - Easily her best performance so far, but that’s still not really saying much. A karaoke version of Faith Hill’s played-out Breathe. Probably bottom 3 again. This could be her last night.
Kimberly Locke - Another good performance. It seems she’s getting it together. I still can’t over those freaky non-matching nostrils.
Predictions for the Bottom 3
1. Trenyce
2. Carmen
3. Julia
Gonzo
Julia.
And now from the “Out of The Frying Pan Into The Fryer” Department: Emmit Smith is stupid.
The freaking Cardinals? If Emmit wasn’t getting good blocking in Dallas, he’s certainly not going to get it in Arizona. Good luck with that, E.
(You can’t see it, but I’m doing a phat cabbage patch - the official dance move of the Blizzog - right now. )
28 years ago today I was unleashed upon the planet. If my Mom is lurking around here somewhere, she can fill you in on the details. I think I was born around 5:20-ish in the afternoon after about 19 hours of labor. It seem I’ve always been this difficult.
Manhattan will beat Syracuse and Penn this weekend to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
You heard it here first. ![]()
Some thoughts on the first day of the NCAA Tournament…
I went 12 for 16 yesterday in my bracket. If I had shown more love to the PAC-10, I would have done even better.
My Four Mistakes
San Diego was my upset special over Stanford. I blew it.
I let my ACC homer-ism cloud my judgement on NC State. They didn’t match up well with Cal and I initially had them picked to lose. I thought their heart would carry them through and I was almost right. Tough break for the Wuffies.
I did no research at all on the Memphis - Arizona State matchup and it showed. I got burned there.
And then we have my hometown Dayton Flyers. The Dana. How could they do this to me? How did this happen?
CBS Sucks
The truth is that I’ll never know how it happened because of CBS’ suck-ass coverage. In Greensboro last night, they showed the Dook - Colorado State match-up (we’ll get to that in a minute). Except for some tense moments at about the 3 minute mark, Duke pretty much controlled the whole game. Meanwhile, in the other three games, Kansas is neck and neck with Utah State, as were Notre Dame and Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Dayton was down huge to Tulsa but apparently was making a great comeback down the stretch. Did I get to see any of this? Other than a quick cut to the end of the Kansas - Utah State game, we got to see nada.
Notre Dame won the game in the final seconds as Wisconsin - Milwaukee missed a layup that would’ve won it. I didn’t see it. As this was happening, Duke was leading by about 8 points with 7 minutes to go in the game I was being shown. I guess that was more important. CBS didn’t even cut to the studio at any point to make mention of the great finish.
So then the Dook game ends and there are about four minutes left in the Dayton game. Dayton is down three after being behind by as much as 26 points. Dick Enberg says “Good Night!” and the broadcast ends. Dayton somehow goes on to lose by 13, but I’ll never know what happened because CBS didn’t see fit to show me the end of the tournament. THanks, guys.
Random Observations
Southern Illinois get screwed big time on that joke call at the end of their game with Missouri. That was either a charge or at best a no-call. There is no way the refs should decide the game on a horrible call like that.
Is it me or has Western Kentucky had the same scrappy white kid with a crew-cut as their point guard for the last 10 years?
It appears that mabye the West bracket isn’t as top-heavy as we all thought, with Kansas, Duke, and Illinois all struggling yesterday.
How horrible was the officiating in the Dook game yesterday? I’m not complaining too hard because Dook actually got the short end of the stick in the second half, which is nice to see for a change. But the game was called so inconsistently I’m surprised how anyone knew which end was up. JJ Redick drove into the lane for contact with the Rams frontcourt about 4 times in the second half. Sometimes it was a charge. Sometimes it was a block. There was no real rhyme or reason to it. Horrible.
How funny is it that Cincinnati’s radio guy got kicked out of the game? That rules.
That’s all the Blizzog has for now. Hopefully Friday’s games will be a little more exciting. ![]()
