Bombs Away
The FCC has ruled that Bono did not violate indecency rules by uttering the phrase “this is really, really, f-ing brilliant” on the air at the Golden Globes earlier this year. We still have no word on his haircut or glasses.
Explaining the commission’s decision, an FCC spokesperson said that Bono used the vulgarity as an adjective or to emphasize an exclamation and that “the use of specific words, including expletives or other ‘four-letter words’ does not render material obscene.”
Great. Hear that sound? It’s the clacking that 10,000 iMacs make when lame-ass TV writers in Hollywood jockey to see who will be the first to get the f-bomb uttered on a network TV show. My money is on NBC doing it in a last ditch attempt to put lacquer on the comedic turd that is Coupling. Or it could be the new Fox reality show, F-ing Brilliant. Of course the blizzog would cover that show religiously.
Whoever does it - and it will happen sooner or later - we can be sure that the f-ing meecrob will hit the fan. ![]()

What’s the big deal? So, someone say’s the big ol’ F-bomb on network tv. It’s just a word that has a meaning just like any other word. Why is that word more vulgar than any other? Because we decide it to be. That’s ridiculous.
I guess we’ve been brain washedsince 1066 that the french versions of the words are somehow less vulgar than the anglo-saxon.
That’s actually my sentiment too. I don’t see what the big deal is. My comments were more meant as an indictment of how lame and predictable network TV shows have become these days than anything else. I wish they would spend more time developing well-drawn characters and interesting plotlines than they would coming up with gimmicky one-shot tricks to get people to watch during sweeps.
JG-
I thought “F’ing Brilliant” was going to be on ABC. I think the Fox show is called “Who wants to F&*% My Mom?”. It’s sure to be a classic.
Jigga,
I’ll bet Jamie would watch that one too. Classic!
I already have a Tivo Season Pass for it.
Good times.
Shagadelic is a naughty word in the UK, baby.
F’ing Yanks…
