The U Stands for Upset

Congratulations to the Carolina football team on their most improbable win last night against #4 Miami in Kenan Stadium.  That was hands-down the best football game I’ve ever been to in my entire life.  The whole game I was never quite letting myself buy into even thinking that we could win.  When that kick sailed through the uprights it was like having an out of body experience.  The whole place went crazy.

After the game, and even still today, I’m absolutely stunned.  The scene in Chapel Hill was surreal.  We stayed and watched the celebration on the field for a good 15 minutes or so, and then we just kinda walked out into the night, heading aimlessly towards Franklin Street along with thousands of others.  It was as if all these people had just experienced some traumatic experience and were just walking because they needed to walk somewhere, talking because they needed someone to talk to about what they had just witnessed.  Unbelievable.

I’m not sure what this means for our program or John Bunting or the rest of the season or anything, but none of that really matters right now.  Regardless of what happens after this, we will always have that cool fall night under the lights in Kenan Stadium, a night where boys became men and memories will become legend as this story is told and re-told through the years.

You earned it last night, Carolina, and no one can ever take that away from you.

Go Heels.

Ok, I’m an unabashed state fan and I’m jealous that UNC won but I have to take comfort in the fact that this win throws UNC Nation into major turmoil.

I think that this actually hurts UNC in the long run. Baddour and Bunting were almost gone but there’s no way that will happen now.

You won the battle but did you win the war?

Re: Baddor and Bunting. Carolina’s great win reminds me of N.C. State’s first win over Florida State. Improbable, and totally enchanting to watch.

It was not, however, enough for Mike O’Cain to keep his job. It just made us hungrier for similar wins, something we didn’t believe O’Cain could deliver. The same fate might await Bunting.

Regardless of all that, it was a truly impressive win. Congrats, Heels fans!

I agree with what Scott is saying but I hope that Mark is right. Unfortunately, the way decisions seem to be made in the administration these days, I would tend to bet that this has bought B&B another year.

I like JB, but I just don’t think he’s the man for the job. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am. This win is awesome, but it doesn’t erase all that has happened before it. I guess we’ll see what happens.

    Re: Mike O’Cain

Dude, it took state another year before they fired him. He actually had an ok record that year but we lost to UNC in the last game and that sealed his fate.

Sorry, but this doesn’t bode well for the UNC football program since they have not had a good recruiting year.

To me, this win and the win over State proves that Carolina has talent. They just don’t have a coach that get them ready every game. If they had even a decent coach, they would be bowl bound for sure. Heck, they still might be…

methinks State doesn’t have this either. :(

    (+1 methinks)

i may not have talent but i do have a 65" chest, bright white shades and some killer flashy red sneaks for walking the sideline. who needs talents (or talented players)?
