Not Posting Much Lately
Sorry I haven’t been posting a whole lot lately. I checked out of the world from the week before Christmas until New Year’s. I spent a lot of that time reading a bunch of marketing books. I know, exciting stuff, eh?
Since I’m now just over 60 days shy of turning the big 3-0 (but who’s counting?), I’ve started thinking a lot more about what I want do with the rest of my life. Long-term I would like to get out of consulting and into something else. Most likely that will mean starting a software company where I create one product and sell it as opposed to building custom solutions for people like I do now.
Ideally I would like to become a MicroISV, a concept coined recently by Eric Sink that refers to a one-person software company. It would be nice to have a job where I could stay home all day and run my company from the comfy confines of Casa del Gaines. That requires a good idea and time to execute that idea though, and that’s why I haven’t been blogging so much lately.
I’m reading these books to help shore myself up in areas where I know I am weak. The hope is that the knowledge or insight I gain will help me execute that great idea whenever it comes to me.
In the interim, I’ll still be blogging, but it may be more about my quest to build my MicroISV or software development or marketing instead of the normal high-brow fare you’re used to here at the blizzog. I just wanted to give you fair warning.
But don’t despair too much. I mean the new season of American Idol IS just right around the corner.

Man, forget that one-man-show crap; you need a half-ass programmer grunt to do all your boring work, and any dirty work that may need to be thumbs broken – I mean, done. All he needs is an apartment above your garage and a hot chick room.
