Wake Up Call

I will start by handing it to Wake Forest.  They played a great game and forced Carolina into a hurry-up half-court offense that was not comfortable for them.  Chris Paul showed that he is the class of the ACC in terms of PG play, and this Carolina fan gives him the nod over Felton and Jack for best PG in the league.  He played tremendously today.

That said, this was one of the worst officiated ACC games I have ever seen.  Strickland punches McCants in the throat, McCants reacts only by just standing there, yet it is a double foul?  Jackie Manuel was nowhere near Downey on his final “foul”, and the whistle blows well after the play was over.  Then, as if the refs realized they were punking UNC, there is a string of about 7 phantom calls on Wake during the 2nd half.  This was just terrible.

This game was arguably the ACC’s Game of the Year and the refs detracted from what could’ve been a tremendous contest.  I will not say that the refs cost the Heels the game, but I will say that the game would’ve been much more interesting with Rashad McCants in the game, who still managed to score almost 20 points despite playing only one third of the game.

Congrats to the Deacs on a great win, but shame on the ACC refs for cheating us out of a better contest.
